The Scene – Arjun’s workspace in the HQ of a leading Fintech Company. He is focused on his computer, typing away. Meera approaches, a bit hesitant but hopeful.
Meera: “Hey Arjun, got a minute?”
Arjun: (turning around smiling) “Sure, Meera. What’s up?”
Meera: (enthusiastic and nervous) “So, I’ve taken over this new team, right? And I was thinking they could really use some guidance from someone experienced. I immediately thought of you. Would you be up for mentoring them?”
Arjun: (leaning back, thoughtful) “Mentoring, huh? That sounds like a great opportunity for the team. I’m flattered you thought of me.”
Meera: “I just think your expertise would be invaluable, you know?”
Arjun: (pausing, then slowly) “You know, Meera, I’d love to help. But right now, I’m totally overwhelmed with this feature I’m developing. It’s a critical phase and needs all my focus. I wouldn’t want to commit to something I can’t give my hundred per cent to.”
Meera: (a bit disappointed) “I get that. Your projects are always first-class.”
Arjun: (nodding, then a lightbulb moment) “But hey, have you thought about asking Karan? He’s been looking to get into mentoring and is pretty good with the team dynamics.”
Meera: (perking up) “Karan? Yeah, that could work. Thanks for suggesting him!”
Arjun: “No worries. And hey, I’m here for quick chats, just not the full-on mentoring gig right now.”
Meera: “I appreciate that, Arjun. And thanks for being upfront about it.”
Arjun: “Anytime, Meera. Good luck with the team!”
Meera leaves, looking hopeful. Arjun turns back to his work, a satisfied smile on his face.
