Needs Wants Desires

Vallabh Chitnis - IntuiWell - Needs Wants Desires

Most people confuse needs, wants, and desires.
So they chase everything.
And still feel empty.

Why?
The brain’s dopamine system rewards the chase, not the outcome.
You crave what others have because of social mirroring.
That hijacks your internal compass.

But freedom doesn’t come from more.
It comes from knowing what’s enough.

Here’s a tool I use:

  1. Take a simple blank paper
  2. Fold it in 3 parts
  3. Draw 3 columns: Needs | Wants | Desires
    1. Needs: What you must have to live and feel safe
    2. Wants: What improves your life but isn’t essential
    3. Desires: What you crave, often because others have it
  4. List what you’re chasing
  5. Ask: “Is this mine or someone else’s dream?”
  6. Define YOUR enough in each category. Take one action to reinforce it.
    1. Say no to one unnecessary purchase.
    2. Unfollow one account that fuels desire.
    3. Celebrate something you already have.

This habit boosts:

  • Mental clarity
  • Emotional regulation
  • Reduced stress

It rewires how you decide and what you value.

Try it this week.
Not for minimalism. For mental freedom.
