Leadership in Uncertain Times

Ever experienced a situation when your GPS suddenly stopped working in an unfamiliar area? The roads were unknown, the signs were unclear, and a sense of unease started to set in?

In the corporate world, this is similar to facing an economic downturn/market disruption. The usual indicators are no longer reliable. The long-term strategy seems obsolete.

In such scenarios, I have witnessed teams hitting the brakes and uncertainty clouding their judgment. The discomfort is more about the possibility of being completely lost rather than not knowing the next turn. The stagnation follows. Opportunities are missed because of indecision.

This is the time leaders need to pursue “Clarity.”

We must find a new way when the ‘GPS’ is gone. Pull over, reassess the route, and switch to using a good old map. Leverage core values + agility to navigate the way forward. Set new, clear, and measurable targets to get through the uncertainty.

Leaders can guide through uncertainty by setting tangible OKRs and tracking progress with clear KPIs. That is the road to success.
