Trust But Verify Decisions

Vallabh Chitnis - IntuiWell - Trust But Verify Decisions

Your Gut Is Not God. It’s Just a Noisy Signal.

Most decisions aren’t logical.
They’re fast. They’re emotional. Often, they’re just… biased.

Your brain uses shortcuts built from years of experience and mistakes.
That’s useful until it isn’t.

I have caught myself mid-decision, realizing I was defending a choice I made 10 minutes ago. Not because it was right but because it felt right.

Here’s the trap:

  • We rely on instinct.
  • We use it to confirm our biases.
  • We mistake that for insight.

Trusting your instincts is a strength.
Letting them drive unchallenged is a weakness.

I have seen million-dollar decisions made on instinct.
Half were wrong.
That’s 50-50 hit and miss.

To think clearly, use the TRUST, BUT VERIFY decisions framework.

Before you decide, ask:

  • What do I really know, not just feel?
  • What assumption is driving this?
  • What would I advise someone else here?
  • What emotions are blinding me?
  • What if I’m wrong?

Use it in business: Before hiring, firing, funding, or launching.

Use it in life: Before reacting, committing, or walking away.

Fast thinking makes you sharp.
Slow testing makes you wise.
You need both to lead.

Trust your gut. Then interrogate it.

What’s one decision where your gut misled you or saved you?
