Vallabh Chitnis - IntuiWell - Name Swap Technique

Stuck After a Failure? Try This 30-Second “Name Swap” Trick.

You mess up a presentation.
A deal falls through.
Someone rejects your idea.

The moment is over, but your brain won’t shut up.

You:
Replay it in the car.
Stare at the ceiling at 2:00 AM.
Think, “What is wrong with me? Why do I always do this?”

You are stuck in a brain loop.

The Real Problem: You Are “Inside” the Failure

When something goes wrong, your self-talk becomes:
“I messed up.”
“I am such a failure.”
“I always ruin things.”

Psychologists call this immersion.
You are not looking at the problem. You are inside it.

In that state, emotions take over and thinking shuts down.
You don’t need more motivation.
You need distance.

The 30-Second “Name Swap” Technique

Next time you spiral, do this:
1. Catch the “I”
Notice: “I am such a failure.”

2. Swap to Your Name
Change it to: “[Your Name] is feeling really upset right now because that meeting went badly.”

3. Coach Yourself Forward
Ask: “What is one thing [Your Name] can do next?”

Example:
Old: “I messed up that deal. I’m useless.”
New: “Vallabh is anxious because the deal fell through. What is one thing Vallabh can do to fix or learn from this?”

Same event.
New inner voice.
Different outcome.

This is not running away from responsibility.
You still own the mistake.
You just stop beating yourself up long enough to learn and act.
