You’re Not Distracted

Vallabh Chitnis - IntuiWell - You're Not Distracted

You’re Not Distracted. You’re Addicted to Easy.

Let’s get brutally honest:
“You’re not “too busy.”
You’re just leaking attention. All. The. Time.

“The greatest challenge of our time is not distraction—it’s addiction to distraction.”
– Cal Newport.

Why?

– Because your brain craves distraction.
– Not because you’re lazy or weak.
– But because you’re human.

The science backs it: Dopamine fuels your need for instant gratification.
Every scroll, ping, and click gives your brain a quick hit.
It’s not progress your brain wants but novelty.

And it comes at a cost.

Neuroscientists found that frequent task-switching literally rewires your brain:

  • Weakens focus
  • Increases errors
  • Shrinks long-term productivity

Distraction becomes your default.

You think you’re “just checking messages.” You’re not.
You’re hardwiring habits that sabotage your goals.

At IntuiWell, Shivani & I both see this every week in our Physical Wellness Program and Personal Growth Program.

Clients walk in saying the same things:

  • “I’m too busy to take care of myself.”
  • “I can’t seem to focus at work.”
  • “My mind is always scattered.”

But when we dig deeper, we find a pattern.

– They’re not short on time.
– They’re short on focused attention.
– They’re giving time, energy, and mental real estate to things that don’t matter at that moment:

Mindless scrolling. Unfiltered notifications. Overconsumption of inputs. All disguised as “taking a break” or “just staying updated.”

And this attention leak shows up everywhere: in their fatigue, anxiety, decision paralysis, and lack of fulfilment.

Try this: Put a price on your attention.

  • ₹20 Lakh/year = ₹4/min
  • ₹50 Lakh/year = ₹10/min
  • ₹2 Crore/year = ₹40/min

Now ask yourself:
Would you pay ₹40 to scroll a reel?
₹10 to check a pointless email?
₹4 to switch tabs every 30 seconds?

You wouldn’t. But you do every day.

Brutal truth:
You can’t control your outcomes if you can’t control your attention. And you can’t control attention if you keep chasing the easy hit.

Success doesn’t come from more work. It comes from better focus.

That begins by saying no:

  1. To noise.
  2. To novelty.
  3. To numbing.

“Where your attention goes, your energy flows.” – Tony Robbins.

So here’s the final question: Are you in control of it?
Or
is your potential just another business model for someone else?
